Indio Rotary Club celebrates its 75th anniversary by noting its many civic projects
There are 14 Rotary Clubs throughout the Coachella Valley.
The Indio Rotary Club celebrated its 75th anniversary at the Coachella Valley History Museum in Indio on Saturday afternoon with a 1949-themed luncheon.
It's the third longest-standing Rotary club in the Coachella Valley, only behind Palm Springs and Palm Desert. Members and local dignitaries recognized the club for the many ways it helps the community here and internationally.
The Rotary is refurbishing and sending a retired Riverside County fire truck to the Town of San Juan Bautista Tuxtepic in the State of Oaxaca in Mexico.
Locally, it's funding seven college scholarships, purchasing dictionaries for all Indio third graders, and paying for the buses to transport Coachella students to the Coachella Valley History Museum, among its many initiatives.
Indio Rotary President and Indio Police Department spokesman Ben Guitron said, "We appreciate people's support for the last 75 years. And it's up to the public to make these organizations their best. There are so many civic duties that you can do. Just come out and volunteer and make a difference. Be part of your community. This is one way to do it, like Rotary and many other service organizations."

Attendees enjoyed lunch, a photo booth, some classic cars out front of the Coachella Valley History Museum, and saw the Indio Rotary's 40 members receive service pins from their district governor.
They also remembered the club's longest-serving member, who passed away in 2023, Dr. Roger A. Harris, a local dentist who served in the club in many roles over 62 years. Harris died in August and was featured in a presentation by Rotary Member Bruce Latta who also detailed the club's many accomplishments and involvements.
The Rotary is a way for local professionals and business owners to support their communities.
